General Information

It has been deemed appropriate to open the Department of Software Engineering with the proposal of the University Senate dated 12.11.2019 and numbered 371/4 and the Higher Education Council Presidency's meeting on 25.12.2019.

In the time period we live in, also referred to as the “Information Age,” software constitutes a critical part of the systems used in many fields such as banking, industry, automotive, health, corporate management, telecommunications systems, air transport, and defense industry. Through software solutions, technology infrastructure integrates into human activities, making people's daily lives more efficient, secure, healthy, and enjoyable. The Software Engineering program is an engineering discipline that has emerged from today's requirements and is among the professions of the future. Software engineers produce, test, install, and manage software systems designed and developed according to engineering disciplines. While developing software products, significant focus is placed on analysis and design processes, and the stages of writing code, testing, and ensuring the continuity of the product are conveyed theoretically and practically. Since computer systems are now used intensively and effectively in every area of daily life, Software Engineering is a field with applications in all disciplines. There is a significant need for technical personnel in such a broad field of science.

The main goal of the Department of Software Engineering is to train software engineers who are proficient in modern software development processes, tools, and programming languages with the contribution of science and mathematics, who can develop software independently or as part of a team, who are knowledgeable about human-computer interaction and software-hardware interfaces, who can analyze problems in the industry and produce software solutions, and who can generate data analysis, data processing, and artificial intelligence solutions. Software Engineering is a field of science that is vital in advanced technology applications and the modern business world. Software Engineers are also related to the fields of computer engineering, computer science, management sciences, mathematics, project and quality management, software ergonomics, and systems engineering. The most significant difference that separates Software Engineering from Computer Engineering is that Software Engineers focus entirely on the software area. Therefore, the number of courses related to computer hardware in Software Engineering departments is fewer.

The Bucak Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences aims for students who successfully complete the Software Engineering Bachelor's Program to graduate as specialists with job experience, having received theoretical and practical education on basic sciences and engineering, the main topics of computer engineering, and the approaches, methods, and applications of software engineering. Our department's students will gain a certain level of experience through the Workplace Training they will undertake for one semester in their final year, allowing them to apply what they have learned throughout their education. Software Engineering departments are the shining profession of our age. Compared to other professions, finding a job in this field is much easier and has a wide range of employment opportunities. Information technologies are a sector where unemployment is not seen; on the contrary, the labor shortage is increasingly growing. Graduates can find job opportunities in every institution that requires automation systems benefiting from software and similar technologies, as well as in software development-focused companies, and engineers have the opportunity to work for high salaries. Graduates will have a wide range of job opportunities in various departments of almost every institution and organization as system analysts, system engineers, design engineers, web design and programming specialists, information technology specialists, and application programmers; they will also be able to work as application engineers in the data processing centers of companies producing computer software, managing, data management, computer-aided industrial design, and implementation. Since it is a job based on idea generation, and does not require much capital financially, software engineers who can generate new ideas also have the opportunity to establish their own businesses.
